Biography
Naveen Patnaik, the writer who turned into a politician was born on 16 October 1946 in Cuttack. He is the founder of the Biju Janata Dal. He is the son of Biju Patnaik, former Chief Minister of Odisha. He completed his education at Welham Boys' School in Dehradun, and later, The Doon School. Patnaik completed his graduation from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree. After his father's demise, Patnaik decided to enter politics in 1997. In 1998, he founded the Biju Janata Dal and was named after Biju Patnaik. He was elected as the Odisha Chief Minister for the first time in March 2000 and then in 2004, 2009, and 2014. He's held the position for four consecutive terms. The Biju Janata Dal secured 112 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly held along with Lok Sabha polls. He was sworn in as Odisha’s chief minister for the fifth consecutive term on May 29th, 2019.

- 2014 Patnaik won a massive victory in both the 2014 Indian General Elections and the Legislative Assembly of Odisha elections. And again became a Chief Minister of Odisha on 21 May 2014.
- 2009 On 21 May 2009, he was elected to head the state government for a third consecutive time.
- 2004 On 16 May 2004, he was elected as the Chief Minister of the state for the second time.
- 2000 On 5 March 2000, he was elected as the Odisha Chief Minister for the first time.
- 1998 He was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha again from the Aska Parliamentary Constituency.
- 1997 He became a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Steel & Mines, a Member of the Standing Committee on Commerce, and Member of, Library Committee of Parliament.

Achievements
Naveen Patnaik was rated the Second best Chief Minister of India by NDTV Opinion Poll in 2010. He was listed as the Most Popular Chief Minister of India by India Today-ORG-Marg Mood of the Nation Poll in 2010. He was also honoured by the United Nations (UN) for evacuating nearly a million people ahead of tropical storm, Cyclone Phailin that hit coastal Odisha in October 2013. Patnaik was ranked the Second Best Performing Chief Minister by NDTV Opinion Poll. He also bagged the Best Administrator Award by Outlook, 2017. He was also bestowed with the Ideal Chief Minister award from former President Pratibha Patil during the eighth Indian Students' Parliament at Pune, in January 2018.
